My Nexus 7 tablet arrived yesterday morning and within 10 minutes I was testing my most important XPages application on it.

My app uses managed beans to provide all logical functionality, there are a lot of AJAX requests and everything is done over SSL.  Last December I was very disappointed to discover that Android Chrome 4.0.x simply did not support SSL and AJAX together and neither did the Chrome Beta.

Well…Ta da!  The Nexus 7 Chrome works great so I just went and updated Chrome on my Asus eePad and it’s working like a champ as well.

There is still one issue to be resolved for all you XPagers out there…you prolly’ already know what I am talkin’ about…Rich Text.

None of my current tablets (Nexus 7, iPads, Asus eePad) support the current XPage implementation of the CKEditor.  A little bit of a bummer because the current CKEditor implementation definitely works on all of those devices outside of XPages.

I have played just a little a couple of times to replace the installed CKEditor with the current CKEditor and the thing is close to working but I just have not been able to spend the time to close the gap between “almost working” and “working.”

I am hopeful 8.5.4 will include an updated CKEditor but I guess we’ll all have to wait and see.

All in all pretty good news if you need to use tablets, XPages and SSL!
